I understand that Titus Alone was very fragmented.. And fans always want more, so we were intrigued when the publication of Titus Awakes was announced last year. I've re-read the trilogy, Gormenghast, Titus Groan and Titus Alone, every few years and joy of joy my children love them too. The magic of Gormenghast in print and in this adaptation lies in the earlier parts (as you exemplified with Groans decent). The show has its flaws, but part 2--with the descent of the duke into madness--is just brilliant; and part 4- -other than Titus' terrible acting--is pretty good as well. The Gormenghast trilogy, by far Mervyn Peake's best known work as a writer, has many fans, including myself. But Titus Alone is a completely different animal altogether. Titus Groan (The Gormenghast Trilogy, Vol. It's an amazing novel in its own way, but it stands completely aloof from the first two novels of the series. But then again the novel ends disapointingly. Rich language, amazing grotesques and a villain like none I'd ever encountered and I was hooked.
